"How Social Media is Running your life... and you don't even know it"

A person from my google form recommended me to watch Anna Analysis on Youtube. She creates many videos calling out the problems that social media has created for young people. In this video she explains how social media negatively affects us. This blog is a short summary of what Anna talked about in her video:

Part 1:

As we scroll through Instagram and Snapchat every day, we see the perfect appearances of others, making us feel even more insecure. Social media has made us obsess over what we look like. We go to beauty guru channels on YouTube to find ways to look prettier or skinnier. As we keep going back to those channels we “begin to fall into the illusion that the problem is what we look like and the solution is to change what we look like”. Anna couldn’t have said it better. We are constantly trying to find happiness in material things and our appearance but changing our external appearance only HIDES our problems.

Part 2:

When we post on Instagram, we are constantly refreshing our photo to see how many likes it gets. The photos we post on Instagram are only the "edited highlight reel of our lives". We post what we want others to see of us. We post photos for validation from others like we have to prove our lives to people. We want to convince people that our lives are extravagant and perfect but we’re just hiding behind a screen.

Part 3:

Celebrities have a huge influence on how we view ourselves and our lives. When we see them in magazines and online we are so jealous of their lifestyles and appearances that we want to be them. But, we are seeing their lives through drama channels, Instagram,

fan accounts, and fake news, so we don’t truly know them. Despite their wealth and fame, many celebrities are not happy. I know how corny this sounds but-- MONEY CAN’T BUY HAPPINESS.

This video is a reminder that your body does not define you because you are SO much more than your body. I think Anna explained this topic perfectly. Please watch the video because this blog is just a summary of what she said in her video.

ALSO: I posted a new podcast where I went over the results of my Social Media & Body Confidence google form that I sent out to my school. This was my favorite podcast so far because I loved hearing other people’s opinions on these topics that I am so passionate about. Enjoy!
