I saw this video from Dove's “Girl Collective” campaign and I thought it was very similar to the goal of my passion project. This video and Doves entire campaign is so important and has made a huge impact on thousands of young girls.
The Dove Self-Esteem project unites girls to realize they're not alone in whatever they're going through. This project hosts events and has a Facebook group chat that allows girls from around the world talk about their insecurities and struggles. They have Campaign Ambassadors such as Shonda Rhimes, a TV producer (best known for producing Greys Anatomy), film writer, and author who is a huge advocate for body positivity. These ambassadors tell their personal experiences with body confidence and gives girls hope that it will get better. Another ambassador, Jess Weiner, is an entrepreneur and CEO of “Talk to Jess” who strives to “change the way our culture represents women and girls”. She helped launch the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, helped change Barbie's body, and served on the White House Council for Women and Girls. Through these workshops they provide solutions to ignoring the stereotypes and being confident in your own skin. They strive to help girls love what they see in the mirror but also emphasize the importance of who you are on the inside.
I love this campaign so much because these ambassadors make an effort to really connect with thousands of young girls. They help girls during their journey towards confidence and it is such a supportive community to be a part of. Please join the Girl Collective Facebook page because it is a great outlet to connect with other girls experiencing the same struggles as you. I also listed other campaigns similar to this one under my Resources tab if you are interested in those.
