What is the Body Positive Movement?

This is a great video because it educates the public on why the Body Positive Movement began. They go into public and ask people about their ideal body type or what size they consider unhealthy. Many of the people's responses reflect the stereotypes that society has on certain body types. But, what people fail to recognize is the outside factors that influence a person's body type. There are many factors that people can’t control such as their genetic makeup that have a huge role on their appearance.

Plus size vs Straight size

The industry considers straight size as the opposite of plus size. The words “plus size” often have a negative connotation attached to it. However, the Body Positive Movement is trying to make “plus size” and “straight size” JUST descriptive words and nothing more.

A quote a girl said in the video that really struck me was that incorporating the various body shapes into the media, “makes it harder to define what a perfect body is because there are so many out there.” This shows the goals of the Body Positive Movement because they want to incorporate ALL body shapes, such as plus size, tall, colored, average, and straight size models.

If you have not yet watched the video, I definitely recommend, because there is way more to it than what I covered in this blog!
